In a world...where everything tastes like BACON

I really hate assorted subs and any dishes that mix meats. However, everyone knows that BACON is the great moderator - bacon wrapped scallops, pasta carbonara with grilled chicken, a burger topped with a few greasy strips...EVERYTHING goes well with bacon!

Seriously...who doesn't like bacon?

So these two nutty guys have come up with BaconSalt, a condiment that's calorie free, vegetarian, and kosher, although definitely not sodium free, heh. The idea is so insane, it's actually brilliant.

I'd give this shit a try.

In case that's not enough for you, there's bacon spray, bacon toothpicks and also bacon chocolate, among many other smoked swine-derived products.

Maybe there is such a thing as a free lunch

FREE FOOD: To celebrate its 25th anniversary, the Newmarket branch of Manchu WOK will give away enough food to "feed the town." The campaign runs from 10:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. from July 21 to July 23. Customers of Canada's biggest fast food Chinese chain will be treated to a two-item meal plus fountain drink. Manchu WOK is at 18195 Yonge St. (at Green Lane). The chain says people can go through the line as many times as they like, and they'll have extra staff, seating, security and parking attendants. Customers are encouraged to donate $1 at the event for the Boys & Girls Club of Ontario.

Hungry yet?

[stolen from Jenn again]
Things crossed out are what I’ve eaten. How many have you tried? What’s your favorite?

According to the BBC, these are the 50 foods to eat before you die:

1. Fresh fish
2. Lobster
3. Steak
4. Thai food
5. Chinese food
6. Ice cream
7. Pizza (current fave: BBQ chicken pizza from Boston Pizza)
8. Crab
9. Curry (Thai green curry or Japanese curry)
10. Prawns

Luna Bar lovin'

I don't usually eat bars but the Luna Bar, chai flavour is totally kickass. It's like a Rice Krispy treat dipped in chai. Just have to be careful not to OD on these, it would be really easy to.

Terra Blues chips

What can I say? They're bl00! Very thick chip, about 3mm, and white and blue-purple (indigo) marbled rather than the solid colour as shown on the bag. I rikey. Maybe they should be the official chip of the Leafs.

The Evil Quartet

Last night, I was lying in bed trying to think of the most evil foods (health-wise) one could eat.

Here is the Evil Quartet, recently updated from the Triumvirate of Evil:

• processed carbs
• fried
• sugary
• creamy

I can think of 2 meals that cover the Triumvirate: the deep fried seafood smothered in cream sauce on top of spaghetti, and the quasi-meal I scarfed down at work the other night - 3 deep fried egg rolls, a plate of pork & veggies that included a large portion of white rice, washed down by a Vietnamese pineapple shake.

I can also think of 2 things that hit the Evil Quartet: cream filled doughnuts, and funnel cakes with ice cream.

Dear gawd, I want a funnel cake with ice cream. :drool

What, no bat heads?

Ozzy's Carnivorous Carrot Cake is a cinnamon spice ice cream with carrot cake soaked in hazelnut liqueur. Death by Sharon is a deep dark chocolate ice cream with dark chocolate fudge and bits of chocolate brownie soaked in Godiva liqueur.

review: mock mashed potatoes

I finally tried the ubiquitous Surprise South Beach mashed 'potatoes'. Dear sweet jeebus, it was good. If you're a long time low-carber or just don't eat mashed potatoes that often, you'd totally be fooled.

I made a couple of small tweaks to the recipe: used real butter, and omitted the half and half.

yumyumyumyum!

review: Gruyere Souffle

On Friday night, I got this incredibly ambitious idea to cook a souffle. It's something I would never attempt on my own, but both Dan and I like to cook, I ran the idea by him and we decided to give it a try.

The Recipe

It tasted like a cheesy breadcrumb pie. It didn't rise fluffily as good souffles ought to have. It WAS edible enough, although later in the evening we ordered pizza.

Conclusion: Failure.
