20 000 Clicks

My car hit 20 000 km yesterday. Here are some pictures to commemorate the occasion (and some others as well) The trip downtown was actually to see the Art Deco exhibit at the ROM. It was worth my scammed $12 student admission. :devil

Progress Prompts - 10/27/2003

Progress Prompts:

Are your new-found healthy eating habits affecting your food budget plan? Is that good or bad? Which is cheaper, processed foods or whole-form foods? Do you find that you're spending more or less money since starting your weight-loss journey?

I've been spending a lot more of my own money to buy whatever I feel like cooking/eating. I don't plan menus for the week and fresh veggies don't keep very long anyways. Since my mom only goes to the store once a week or so, if I want it, I have to pay for it myself. Of course processed craptastic food is a lot cheaper, but I'm definitely willing to spend the extra money for healthy food.

WiW - 10/22/2003

Do you feel guilty over eating something bad or missing a workout? If not, how have you overcome that?

Oh my dear god, yes. The guilt, although horrible, helps keep me motivated...how would I learn self control if I didn't have a conscience eating away at me every time I screw up? I finally had a good day today after 5 days of eating hell. It's nice to be back on track (somewhat).

review: Gruyere Souffle

On Friday night, I got this incredibly ambitious idea to cook a souffle. It's something I would never attempt on my own, but both Dan and I like to cook, I ran the idea by him and we decided to give it a try.

The Recipe

It tasted like a cheesy breadcrumb pie. It didn't rise fluffily as good souffles ought to have. It WAS edible enough, although later in the evening we ordered pizza.

Conclusion: Failure.

review: Dorgel Orange

Dorgel desserts

Visually more interesting than plain old sherbet in a bowl. A tad expensive at $4.99 for 2 oranges, but great for special occasions. Low in fat and generally healthy. The dog and bear are fascinated by their orangey goodness.

Progress Prompts - 10/13/2003

Progress Prompts:

Describe your eating habits at mealtime. Do you think you need to change them in order to lose weight and get healthy? Where do you usually eat? Health experts are telling us not to eat in front of TV. Why?

Today I am not going to worry too much about what I eat, since it is Thanksgiving. However, I am still going to restrict the amount of processed carbs I eat. I either eat standing up (breakfast - on the way to the gym), in front of the computer, and sometimes I even eat properly at the kitchen table. For me, I don't think eating in front of the computer is as bad as it is for some other people. I only carry a small portion of what I'm eating up there, so if I want more, I have to make an extra 2 trips on the stairs to get it. I don't watch TV, so I don't eat in front of it, either. Why I think eating in front of the TV is unhealthy is because you are usually so absorbed in watching the show that you will unconsciously eat the whole bag of chips/carton of ice cream without thinking about portion sizes and whether you're full or not. The eating continues through the duration of the show, and usually occurs later in the day, when calories consumed are not so quickly burned off.

Your Dessert

No cheating. Pick your dessert, then look to see what psychiatrists think about you!

If you were making a dessert and you had your choice of those below (or some great bakery was baking the dessert of your choice), which would you choose?

a) Angel food

b) Brownies

c) Lemon Meringue

d) Vanilla with Chocolate Icing

e) Strawberry Short Cake

f) Chocolate on Chocolate

g) Ice Cream

h) Carrot Cake

Angel food: Sweet, loving, cuddly. You love all warm and fuzzy items.
A little nutty at times. Sometimes you need an ice cream cone at the end
of the day. Others perceive you as being childlike and immature at times.

Brownies: You are adventurous, love new ideas, are a champion of underdogs and a slayer of dragons. When tempers flare up, you whip out your saber. You are always the oddball with a unique sense of humor and direction. You tend to be very loyal.

Lemon Meringue: Smooth, sexy, & articulate with your hands, you are an excellent after-dinner speaker and a good teacher. But don't try to walk and chew gum at the same time. A bit of a diva at times, but you have many friends.

Vanilla with Chocolate Icing: Fun-loving, sassy, humorous. Not very grounded in life; very indecisive and lack motivation. Everyone enjoys being around you, but you are a practical joker. Others should be cautious in making you mad. However, you are a friend for life.

Strawberry Short Cake: Romantic, warm, loving. You care about other people and can be counted on in a pinch. You tend to melt. You can be overly emotional and annoying at times.

Chocolate on Chocolate: Sexy, always ready to give and receive. Very creative, adventurous, ambitious, and passionate. You have a cold exterior but are warm on the inside. Not afraid to take chances. Will not settle for anything average in life. Love to laugh.

Ice Cream: You like sports, whether it be baseball, football, basketball, or soccer. If you could, you would like to participate, but you enjoy watching sports. You don't like to give up the remote control. You tend to be self-centered and high maintenance.

Carrot Cake: You are a very fun loving person, who likes to laugh. You are fun to be with. People like to hang out with you. You are a very warm hearted person and a little quirky at times. You have many loyal friends.

Lovable Winning

CUBS WIN!! CUBS WIN!!!

Just to clarify, I ain't no fuckin' bandwagoner. I own a Mark Grace jersey from circa 1996. I own and have read the Cub Fan's Little Book of Wisdom countless times and even quoted it in English essays in high school. I've experienced the pure pleasure that is an afternoon game on a hot summer afternoon at Wrigley Field.
