No Warning

Too bad if you're disturbed by these images, they're reality.

As much as that picture saddens me, as much as I cry when I see my own son sleeping, I'm grateful you shared the juxtaposition. I'm tired of warbloggers and their push for "doing what's right," and their neglect of what's happening to innocent lives. Children do not deserve such pain.

I agree that picture is horrible. But, I'm not sure how that little flag got in the child's hand nor the possible significance. It's a little disturbing how you label the prisoners as "baby killers". Not so sure that's right. :scratchchin

I didn't edit the picture at all. It's posted exactly as I found it.

Well, by definition somone who kills babies is a "baby killer", right? Even if you believe that "war is good", baby killing is still baby killing.

The simple arrangement of two photos side by side does not make them baby killers. I don't think war is good and I don't know how you jumped all the way to a conclusion that I somehow believe "war is good".

I'm not saying YOU think war is good. I'm saying that even if one believes that the war is just, the core label of "baby killer" is still true.

That is, US forces in Iraq did the killing you see here. The soldiers on the right were involved in that killing (they had the option of saying "no, this isn't right, I won't take part). Thus, by definition, they are "baby killers".

Perhaps one can make a case that sometimes the end justifies the means, and that sometimes baby killing is a good thing, but that doesn't change the fact that it happens.

I really wouldn't want to be "liberated".

Disgusting... really disgusting!

A couple of things. The soldiers on the right took part in operations, "attacks", against Iraqi military forces. In the particular event where they engaged the Iraqi military, then had to land their helicopter, then were captured, there has been no mention of civilian casualties. In fact, from the picture I see here, I cannot determine what caused the injury to the child. Nor where the child was located. Nor when the picture was taken. Those wounds could have been caused by a pot of boiling water thrown on the child by Saddam Hussein as far as I know. I realise you feel strongly about this and don't want to anger you.

Larry - give me a break. You could easily assume that the child was injured by his own parents, for fuck's sake. I think it's pretty obvious that the injuries were caused by American bombs.

Geez. I'm only trying to be reasonable. I just didn't want to leap to the conclusion that "it's pretty obvious that the injuries were caused by American bombs". It's probably a good thing to realize that propaganda of various forms is used by all sides in wars. The fact that the child has a little American flag clutched in his hand is probably a good sign that the photo at least was intended as propaganda. I know this rather plodding way of approaching this issue may frustrate some, but it is useful not to jump to conclusions too quickly especially if those conclusions re-inforce already held views. I hope you won't censure me as I am only expressing my opinions.

regardles of the digitally enhanced flag and propaganda aspect of it, you should be pretty damn disturbed by the image and take it to heart that war is a fucked up and terrible thing.

Amen, teyie.

The horrors of human misery are always terrible. Just because I have questioned the facts does not mean that I am not disturbed by the image. War is a terrible thing. On that we agree I hope.

But the affairs of humanity are very complex and it is hard to discern to right path. Should we as a nation stand by and let nature run its course in world affairs and hope that bad things don't come our way? Or should we strive to interject ourselves to forward causes of peace and freedom? There are many paths with many possible results. And there is no person no matter how wise who can see what lies ahead. Every step taken leads to many unseen possibilities.

being from canada and having no part in america's war the only thing patty can do is sit back and watch, influence other would-be supporers of hate and war mongering, and watch out for the mindboggling horrors that might come her way if ww3 plays it's cards right.

this isn't a question posed or an argument started, this is a prime example of what canadians can do. as a voting american i can choose my path in this war, but as a third party, patty has every right to express her beleifs on her domain in hopes of altering the minds and widening the perspectives of others.
