Weekly Wrap-up - Superstitions

The Weekly Wrap-up:

1. Today is Friday the 13th -- are you uneasy when these days happen? Why or why not? If you take notice of Friday the 13th, what do you do on these days that's different from other Fridays the whatever?
I notice but I don't do anything - I :hearts the number 13! Remember, 13 is only an unlucky number if you're a goalie!

2. Describe any superstitions you've picked up from your family. Were they generational or part of your ethnic heritage? How? What superstitions have you adopted on your own?
In Chinese culture, numbers are very important, based on the their phonetic sound. There are tons of combinations that make very lucky or unlucky sounds. In general 3 and 8 are great and 4 is bad, so license plates and house numbers and stuff with "bad" numbers are avoided. I don't have any weird superstitions like the way Vin taps his pop cans 3 times before opening..not that I know of.

3. When you were a child, were there any superstitions you truly believed? What were those superstitions? Describe the occasion when you started disbelieving?
I don't know when I stopped believing this, but I used to hold my breath going by cemeteries till I was about 10 or so. In high school, I wore the same outfit all the time for tests.

4. What superstitions amuse you? Why? What superstitions make you uncomfortable? Why?
I haven't come across any that make me uncomfortable, but I think the ones that athletes have are pretty amusing, like Pat Roy talking to the goalposts, and wearing a certain item of clothing during a good streak.

5. How are superstitions part of your country, culture or neighborhood? How have they evolved? What culture's superstitions fascinate you? Frustrate you?
