Soul's Definition of Power Metal
oasis100374: i hate power metal
zorbslovessporks: me too
oasis100374: you listen to one power metal album, you've listened to like 99% of the catalogue
zorbslovessporks: hahaha
oasis100374: no, i swear to god
oasis100374: tehy all start the same
zorbslovessporks: i believe you!
oasis100374: some cheesy-ass intro about wizards and shit, then the guitar goes chun chun chun chun, the drums break in and the vocalist have his nuts squeezed and goes "aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!"

um..... note that just because alot of them have a fairly same basis does not mean they all sound the same. Can you really classify Sonata Arctica on lets say Winter Hearts Guild with Blind Guardian on Imaginations from the other sides ?
Not all of the vocalist have nuts.
Then also, can you not say the same for black metal and death metal if you want to be just as generalized as you seem to be classifying power metal ? I mean you have the pseudoblack metalist, who at best can be considered sub par, and have made the genre into a gimmick. Then you have death metals let me growl sing about death, rape, murder, and general violence. Both of which are a hell alot more cliche then power metal, not to mention one listen classifying alot of the bands.
Oh and if you want to classify Power Metal as cheesy, which it is not because you have the definition for cheesy misconstrued, you would have to classify many other metal genres as just as flamboyent and gimic based. Though maybe not as flamboyent, almost all metal genres have become generalized anf gimic based to the majority who do not listen to it. I will admit power metal is a little more flamboyent then other genres, but that does not mean cheesy in any way.
Don't be prejudice towards other genres unless you can come up with arguments to defend your own tastes. Power metal is not all drums come in and high vocals. Can you say Matthew Barley has a high pitched voice ? Though Iced Earth is arguablly a cross genre. This argument can be put forth on other genres.
